COMMITTED TO MAKING THE CITY I LOVE AN EVEN BETTER PLACE TO LIVE, WORK & PLAY
Access & Equity
"We need to ensure that Hamilton is a welcoming city for all. Barriers that prevent Hamiltonians from being able to flourish and thrive need to be eradicated. No matter your race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socioeconomic status, place of origin, marital status, physical appearance, or abilities you should be proud to call Hamilton your home and know that you are truly included in making this a community that embraces everyone."
"Not that long ago you could work a full time minimum wage job in Hamilton and have enough money to keep a roof over your head, food in your belly and have a life. Sadly with skyrocketing rents and housing prices along with increasing energy costs it is becoming harder and harder for Hamiltonians to be able to afford to live in Hamilton. If we displace people from our city because they can no longer afford to live here are we still the welcoming community we claim to be?"
Arts & Culture
"We have so much to be proud of as Hamiltonians. We have a robust and dynamic arts scene filled with theatre, music, dance, visual arts and more. We need to continue to invest in the arts and especially in our children and youth engaging in our arts communities. As an artist I sing with passion and I write with intensity. I believe fervently that expression through art is one of the strongest touchstones for any culture. Without art all cultures are dead."
Economic Development & Sustainability
"When we talk about economic growth in our city we need to ask ourselves if growth is actually growth for all Hamiltonians. Growth for growth's sake should not be our ultimate goal. Are we creating sustainable communities in which all our citizens can feel secure in planting roots and growing families and homes that will nurture them and their loved ones?"
Parks & Recreation
"We are truly fortunate as Hamiltonians to enjoy so many beautiful parks, trails, aquatic centres, recreational facilities and more. These community spaces help bring us together collectively as we share in the joy of nature and physical activities. We need to continue to invest in these spaces as they showcase and highlight one of our many treasured gems as a city."
"We need to eliminate the practice of carding by police as our most marginalized citizens are the ones who are targeted by it. If we want to ensure that every citizen of Hamilton is valued and respected we need to stop making people of colour, indigenous people, our homeless and those struggling with mental health issues feel as if they are constantly suspects. They are our fellow citizens and should be afforded the dignity and compassion we all want and need and deserve."
"As a lifelong public transit user and non-driver I depend on the HSR to get me to the spaces and places in our city that allow me to live, work and play. Having a dependable and efficient public transit system is what truly defines a world class city. My dream is to have a public transit system that is so easy and fun to use and ride that every car owner would prefer to leave their car in their driveway and use the HSR to travel around Hamilton."
Safe Injection Sites
"Supervised safe injection sites save lives. They also save municipalities money and resources on police and medical personnel intervention. They also help people to get clean. If we value the lives of all our citizens it means we value the lives of drug users too. Many of whom are looking for a positive route out of their addiction."
